About the Roselandia

The Roselandia is a new Class 1 e-bike designed in Portland, Oregon by Rose City Recumbent Cycles. Our design will forever change how you think about e-bikes. The Roselandia is comfortable, easy to ride, simple to operate, and adjusts easily for different rider heights. Despite the compact size, this e-bike is the most fun ride in town.

The Roselandia is not a folder, but a solid stable one piece frame that harkens back to the glory days of some of the best BMX bikes ever made. The compact aluminum frame is designed to ride smoothly while maintaining the feel of a solid, full size bicycle. Unlike many e-bikes that are tall, heavy, and cumbersome to ride - our light crank-forward design allows riders to be near flat footed at a stop, even while staying fully planted in the amazingly comfortable ergonomic seat. This makes for a safe, solid, spirited feeling ride that never gets uncomfortable.

The Roselandia was designed with the urban fabric and tight spaces cyclists experience while riding in Portland or other cities in mind - combining the best elements of several designs past and present. We envisioned a bike that fits into a compact commute lifestyle. At the same time, a bike that can handle trips just about anywhere. A bike built to last and bring home the groceries! A bike that you can ride for miles on end in perfect comfort. One that rides smooth under power and is equally smooth with the assist completely off. Simple. Smooth. Compact. Light weight. Accessible. Experience what riding an e-bike should be like - the Roselandia.

Purposely Designed Features

Low Step-Over Height and Comfortable Seat

The Roselandia is easy to mount with a low 25 inch step-over height. But unlike frames with very low top tubes, the Roselandia frame retains a positive “big bike” feel when on the road. This top tube height is also ideal for lifting and carrying the Roselandia.

Once on the bike, your backside will be in love with the ergonomic seat, which works in tandem with the crank forward geometry - resulting in one of the most comfortable bikes anywhere for all-day comfort.

Worried about being seated way off the ground when coming to a stop? Not a problem on the Roselandia - our geometry allows you to stay seated and still get your feet on the ground.

TRP Mechanical Disc Brakes and Quality Components

We understand that many e-bikes today are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. When you are talking about e-bikes that weigh 65 pounds or more with large wheels that makes sense.

But the Roselandia tips the scales at a svelte 49 pounds and has 406 wheels, so it stops like a champion with TRP Spyke dual piston mechanical calipers. This also means the brakes are very user and bike shop mechanic friendly to service.

Our component specification is easy to adjust, commonly available, and durable SRAM parts - ready for years of riding and very simple maintenance.

Smooth Drivetrain and the Perfect Amount of Power

Some e-bikes are equipped with too much assist - turning your riding experience into an exercise in power management. Others have too little power when you really need it.

The Bafang M400 drive on the Roselandia provides the perfect amount of usable power. It’s smooth and whisper quiet, with a large easy to read display that is simple to operate with world class reliability. It has the torque to get you up to speed quickly, and then dial down the assist and cruise silently and effortlessly.

As a bonus - the Bafang M400 rides glass smooth - even with the assist off - allowing you to ride anywhere without worry of getting stranded on a hard to pedal, heavy bike.

Design and Production Status

IMG_0324_polarr.jpg

The Roselandia prototype and its very specific geometry and sizing was ride tested and proven over a rigorous 18 months right here in Portland, Oregon. We have completed and tested our initial production samples and ironed out all remaining details. Our manufacturing partners and relationships are the best in the bicycle industry built over several years of working together. The Roselandia is a finished product and 100% ready for production!

We are actively seeking funding and/or partners for our initial production run. Our ideal goal is to offer the Roselandia through e-bike dealers across the country and beyond. As a small bike shop ourselves, we know the value that local bike shops offer their communities - and ultimately prefer our bike to be offered through a strong dealer network.
